Natural Medicine

Natural medicine uses wholesome natural remedies (food, herbs, minerals) to facilitate healing and promote health. It comprises several modalities: herbal and nutritional medicine, vibrational medicine, such as flower essences and homeopathy, aromatherapy, acupuncture and acupressure, massage and other types of bodywork (osteopathy, chiropractic medicine, myotherapy, etc.), energy healing (colour and sound therapy, shamanic practices and numerous other methods). They say that the older a person gets, the broader the approach to treat a certain condition should be.

Natural medicine helps redefine our modern understanding of health. In the modern Western society health is the absence of symptoms, or control of disease. Within this paradigm it can be very limiting and not a positive image of wellness.

My challenge about the definition of health to you is as follows: HEALTH is an acceptance of all that is you, including imperfections and contradictions. It is not the identity or expectation our society and/or others may define you as, it is your complete wellness -ツツ mentally, physically and emotionally. In this light, I see diseases as our body’ツツ冱 indicators that something is wrong and must be done to correct it. It is often our subconscious emotions which block us from attaining the health we desire.

I utilise a wide range of tools to get you to the desired destination of your health journey, from nutritional and herbal medicine to vibrational and energy medicine. I also do some bodywork in the form of relaxation and therapeutic massage with the use of aromatherapy and energy work.

In my practice testing and diagnostic tools may be used to help pinpoint the imbalances and connect the cause and effect of a disease. Some of testing and tools that I employ are: blood pressure measurement, urinalysis, zinc status test, iridology, tongue and nail analysis. Functional pathology tests may be referred to if the need arises. One of the most fascinating diagnostic tools is certainly iridology as it provides a glimpse into the overall state of the body’ツツ冱 systems, outlines main strengths and weaknesses, which is of immense help when drafting a treatment plan.

Please, find below information on some of the modalities of natural medicine. Go the main menu to find out more about Nutrition, Aromatherapy and Energy Healing.

Yours in health,
Julia

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine dates back to the times before Christ. This is what humanity has been using for millennia to address health problems -ツツ physical as well as mental and emotional.

It can be of interest to my clients that modern pharmaceutical drugs were actually derived from plants’ツツ constituents. For instance, a well-known aspirin, which is used for pain relief, heart attack prevention (as a blood-thinner) came about once chemists were able to isolate a constituent of the willow bark – salicylic acid. The willow bark was used by Egyptians for aches and pains for centuries.

I use herbal medicine in the form of liquid extracts, or as dried plants to make infusions or decoctions. There’ツツ决e products on the market which use powdered dried herbs in a capsule form. This is a good solution in some particular cases.

My passion is to combine the chemical properties of a plant and its energetic effect. When I was a student of herbal medicine, at the very beginning of my study, I was perplexed at the amount of plants with similar action – how does one know which one to choose? Later I learned about Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic approach to herbal treatments. In those ancient branches of medicine they look at the body’ツツ冱 deficiencies and excesses in terms of physical properties -ツツ hot/cold, damp/dry in relation to different organs and body in general. Taking into account these properties a particular herb is chosen. For instance, for the diseases of the liver, one can choose a herb that would take away excessive heat from the organ, or, the other way around テ「ツツ warm it up if this is indicated. I was absolutely fascinated at the intelligence of plants and how they can provide not only nourishment (vitamins and minerals), but also regulate the work of our organs, glands and systems.

The plants on our planet possess not only physical qualities, but also those, which are hidden to a scientist’ツツ冱 microscope. It means that plants don’ツツ冲 only heal on physical level, but on a subtler level as well. They carry vitality, and nowadays I see more and more people complaining about the lack of energy, or vitality. And this is not surprising in our modern world of technology, artificial lighting, electro – magnetic radiation, inadequate amount of physical activity, and pressure to succeed. The knowledge about energy / vitalism aspect of plants has started to come back in printed books. Though it has been known by traditional herbalists or shamans for centuries, this knowledge was suppressed at some point in history of humanity.

How can Herbal Medicine help you?

There is virtually no disease which could not be helped with herbal medicine -ツツ either as the main treatment or as a supportive one.

Some of the ailments I helped people with using herbal medicine are: male and female infertility, thyroid disorders, fungal infections, colds/coughs/flu, digestive problems, depression and anxiety, hay fever and other autoimmune diseases.

I most often include little bonuses into my herbal blends, like Bach or Australian bush flower essences. These are of great help to take the treatment to the next level, to incorporate emotional and energy healing into the treatment protocol.

Flower essence

Flower Essence

Essentially, flower essences are vibrational medicine. What does that mean? Here we’ツツ冤l need to go into a bit of science. Every particle of the universe consists of molecules, the centres of which contain an atom around which electrons and protons orbit. They all oscillate about each other in a positive-negative vibratory movement, maintaining a fixed magnetic spacing from each other. All atoms, and the “ツツ徇atter”ツツ that they constitute through their cohesive groupings, are vibrating at different frequency rates dependent on their complexity and density -ツツ a low frequency allows a dense grouping of atoms, a higher frequency creates more spaced-out and refined matter. So even a rock, a colour, a sound, a smell puts out a vibration of density and strength that can be measured.

On Earth we live within the dense physical level at a relatively low rate of vibration, restricted to the limited perception range extending from the low frequencies of sound (16 to 20,000 cycles per second) to the higher visible light-frequency spectrum. The light-frequency spectrum changes from the lowest colour of red, moving up through orange, yellow, green, blue and violet to the point where our vision ceases at the ultra-violet level.

The vibration frequency of a particular matter determines the energy level of that matter. Flower essences can influence certain vibrations in the body (as each organ vibrates differently) and therefore, help establish a more balanced state.

I often prescribe flower essences to people who has moved to a new job or a new school, had a baby or death in the family, moved house or experienced divorce or got married as these are the most emotional and stressful events in our lives and normally influence our vibrational pattern.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a branch of natural medicine which is also a vibrational medicine.

The word “homeopathy” is derived from the Greek words homeo, meaning “similar”, and pathos, meaning “suffering” (such as the pathology of a disease). Homeopathy operates on a law of nature -“like cures like”ツツ, and has been used clinically for more than 200 years.

The difference between flower essences and homeopathy is that in some homeopathic potencies there’ツツ决e molecules of the original substance present, while in flower essences, it is more of an energy imprint of the plant. Homeopathic remedies are made of plants and minerals. There’ツツ决e also remedies which are made of animal tissues. Even Hippocrates talked about homeopathy. “Like cures like” means that a patient suffering from symptoms can be treated and cured by doses of a substance (mineral, animal or plant) capable of producing similar symptoms in a healthy person. Five hundred million people use homeopathy around the world – ツツ努hich, according to the World Health Organization, makes it the 2nd most commonly used form of alternative medicine.

Here are examples of “like cures like” principle:

a. An onion is a substance which makes your eyes water and your nose burn. If you are having an attack of hay fever with watering eyes and a burning nose, a homeopathic remedy made from onion can relieve it.
b. Poison ivy causes redness, intense itching, burning, blistering and sometimes stiff muscles. Homeopathically it has been used for everything from herpes and burns to eczema and arthritis.
c. When you are stung by a bee you feel a burning, stinging pain and the tissues surrounding the area swell up. Some relief is gained from applying cold to the area. If you had swollen tonsils with burning and stinging pain relieved by cold, a homeopathic remedy prepared from the same source could cure.

One of the greatest advantages of homeopathy is that it is easy to administer to children due to neutral taste and a minute dose. The remedies come either in drops or lactose-base globules (drops are ideal for babies).
